Things I achieved in 2013

NYC, always high on my list!
NYC, always high on my list!

So I didn’t touch on my 2013 goals post in any sort of summary way, so now I’m just going to quickly sum up the good memories and achievements that marked 2013:

Surfers Paradise

This family of four stopped to look at the Halloween costumes at the restaurant we were leaving, and so I asked to take their photo! They were more than happy to be in my tourist snap!

It’s hard for me to pick a favourite memory or achievement from my year.  For my regular readers, was there a favourite memory of your year (or mine)?

  1. What a huge year, Sarah! It's so good to have a summary to look back on. I still have real surges of happiness looking back on my memories (photo albums) from my twenties. I hope you'll also look back with real enjoyment many years into the future. I still love the Diner en Blanc pictures…brings back so many memories for me of our time living in Sydney.

    1. Thanks Fiona – I'm almost tempted to do a round up of each year since school on here – there won't be lots of linked posts, or even many photos, but it'd be a nice way to remember what year what happened :p I start getting hazy so quickly!

The Diner en Blanc photos were truly magical, a bit like the pop up event.

      1. I think that would actually be a lovely thing for you to keep for the future. And speaking as a 43 yo, I can definitely confirm that it gets hazier over time! All the great memories are there, but I have so many undated photos that I really just cannot recall the sequence and time of different events and holidays. It bugs me! Write it down while you can 🙂

  2. Don't forget hanging shelves! You also hung a shelf in a corner in your condo 🙂

Your show photo is gorgeous. If I'm not mistaken, we actually have the same bed, just in different colours.

Looking forward to seeing what 2014 brings 🙂

    1. What a memory you have Cassie – I did hang those shelves, but I removed them when I moved out, as I thought the risk of them falling out/off was too high, and I didn't want more damage to deal with.

The bed is SO common – the Ikea Malm? The BF has the same one, his is in more of a black tone, and is used in our spare bedroom. I know so many people with it too!

  3. I think this rates as a banner year, Sarah! You've had so many accomplishments and come through a lot of personal changes. For a lot of people, even one thing from your list would have made it a "year of change" for them! Are there any changes you are hoping for in 2014?

    1. It sure does – especially when you see it all listed out there.

There's no really big changes in 2014 I'm hoping for, but I would like to get my weight back to around the 70s where it was for a long time. At the moment, it's a bit of an obsession (tracking food, exercise, water intake etc), but I hope I'll tame the beast soon. Oh and the half marathon, that's a serious challenge staring me in the face for July!

  4. You had a great 2013! I think moving in with my boyfriend and visiting my parents for a week in their new home were the highlights of last year for me. I have no idea what 2014 holds, I'm just hoping things go smoothly.

  5. I love round ups like this and I'd like to read about other years too if you'd like to post them 🙂

I make a photo book of events, some big (buying our house, welcoming babies) and some small (a dinner date) every year for hubby and I, and they're so nice to look back on. Especially when I'm wondering, did we do that in 2008 or 2009? haha

    1. I've started drafting back to 2011 I think… I'll have less photos, but the round up'll be nice as a memory. On my walk this morning, i thought I should also write where I spent different holidays (Christmas, NYE etc), just to jog my memory there too.

The photo books are a lovely idea. From 2006 til about 2010 I made travel journals, including printing out photos on tour, and having them 70% complete by the time I got home – it was great to show family, and it's a great memory. It also helps 'store' all the tickets and memory items I wanted to keep. Maybe I can photograph some pages to add to the blog – now there's an idea!

  6. You've done some wonderful things, and some fun things, and some sensible/grown up things. (And love the evil laugh on being a landlord!)

    Well done!

And I've enjoyed reading your views on the bits and bobs of your life! Thanks for sharing.

    1. No problems Lucinda – when are you back from NZ? I'm not really sure how I kept up blogging so regularly for a year – it helps that I scatter across any content category that takes my interest!

  7. What a GREAT 2013 you have Sarah! I agree with Lucinda- there's a great mix of fun and grown up things (lol). How are you finding being a landlord?

    1. Thanks Laura. Being a landlord has been pretty seamless, I've got great tenants (they walk around any misaddresses mail!), I'm even tempted to lower the rent next time it's up for renewal, cause I did strike lucky with a pretty high rent!

  8. You had a great 2013! I think moving in with my boyfriend and visiting my parents for a week in their new home were the highlights of last year for me. I have no idea what 2014 holds, I'm just hoping things go smoothly.
